A couple weeks back, our boy turned one. Grandma made the scrumptious cake (after she won the arm-wrestle) and we had a quiet-ish night-in with family to celebrate the special day.
It's been a good year and a crazy one.
The first-year mark was important to us. Doctors and nurses told us just before releasing Sammy from the NICU, that a high percent of NICU babies end up back in emergency pediatric care within the first year. But, they also told us, if we could make it through the first year without any emergency hospital stays, the likelihood of any future stays goes down exponentially. (Hospital "scare tactics" could be, but won't be, the topic of a different post.)

| Sammy's last night in the NICU. I like to think this is one of him crying out his "freedom yell." |
Well, we've hit the year mark and so far so good. I say this not to tempt the universe, but to give a huge sigh of relief and thanks.

Haha. You'll have to elaborate on the arm wrestle..
And what an adorable one year old you have. I do hope someday soon he and Pippa can become friends.
Happy Birthday, Sammy! You are growing up so fast!
Yes, Betsy, I hope they can meet and be friends, too.
@Amanda - he is growing up fast! It's been a fun (if sometimes tiring) year.
Congratulations! One year!
