Jon heard me venting about the video and had the benefit of reading my last post. He felt that what really bothered me about the video was something I only barely touched on in the post. And he was right.
The portrayal of the one "strong" female was eclipsed by the women on either side of her in varying states of sex-kitten vulnerability. This is what bothered me most about the video. That, and I couldn't get out of my head the image of the slimy men behind the camera drooling over every carefully choreographed hip movement. All this seemed to mock the empowered message of the song.
My vocabulary is weak when it comes to descrying misogyny. I have good friends who are much more capable of eloquence than I on the topic. But such is the case. Rant part deux completed.
